National Blood Donor Month is celebrated in January to honor blood donors and encourage more people to donate. Winter months can see a decrease in donations and an increase in the risk of blood shortages due to holidays, cold and flu season and harsh weather. Every two seconds in the United States, someone needs blood, according to AABB.org.

There are several upcoming opportunities for the Kerrville community to donate blood:

9 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24 at City of Kerrville, 701 Main St.

9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 at Kerrville Renaissance Festival, 3785 Texas 27

9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26 at Kerrville Renaissance Festival, 3785 Texas 27

9 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29 at Schreiner University, the Purposeful Lives Program, 2100 Memorial Blvd., CMB 5920
