Texas announces new COVID-19 hotline with mobile vaccination teams

Texas launched a state call center Friday intended to help businesses, homebound individuals and other organizations schedule visits with mobile teams who will come directly to them, all in an effort to make it easier for people to get vaccinated.

Gov. Abbott and the Texas Division of Emergency Management first launched the program as a pilot in January to reach underserved areas in the state. Since then, the responsibilities of the teams, which are made up of Texas National Guard members, have increased across the state.

Those interested in setting up a visit with a mobile team can call (844) 90-TEXAS and select option 3. There is a minimum of 10 interested individuals per visit to qualify for a visit. People who are homebound can also call the hotline number and choose option 1.

Texas is averaging fewer than 2,000 new COVID-19 cases per day for the first time since June 15. As of May 6, Texas has 2,565 COVID-19 hospitalizations, 90,024 active cases and 49,474 confirmed coronavirus deaths.
