Two more COVID-19 deaths added to Kerr County’s total

Two more Kerr County residents have died due to COVID-19 complications, according to Kerr County Emergency Management Coordinator Dub Thomas. “The pair of deaths of permanent Kerr County residents were both reported on June 16 – one posted by the Texas Department of State Health Services (which usually means the death occurred outside the county) and the other posted by Peterson Regional Medical Center here in Kerrville,” Thomas said.

These latest fatalities bring the death total for the county to 91 people since the pandemic began in 2020. Thomas wants to remind people, “Just when things start to feel almost normal, here is the grim reminder that we still need to keep up with our safety protocols.”

Aggregating data from Peterson Health and DSHS Region 8, as of June 21: 29 active COVID-19 cases; 4,470 recoveries; 91 fatalities; 7 hospitalizations.

The most recent COVID-19 vaccine statistics for Kerr County show: 17,133 citizens are fully vaccinated; 150 vaccines were distributed during the June 1-2 Moderna clinic hosted by the Texas Military Department personnel; 20,100 total vaccines have been allocated to all of the providers in Kerr County.

Peterson Health will conclude its weeklong Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine clinic Tuesday, June 22 at Peterson Regional Medical Center, 551 Hill Country Drive, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Pre-registration is required and can be done by calling (830) 258-7373, Option 2, or by visiting petersonhealth.com.

The Texas DSHS reported June 21 that 11.4 million Texans are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, which is roughly 47.4% of those eligible to receive the vaccine. As of June 19: There are 59,067 active COVID-19 cases; 1,564 hospitalizations; 51,017 confirmed COVID-19 deaths.

The U.S., Mexico and Canada have extended non-essential land travel restrictions through July 21, according to a tweet Sunday from the Department of Homeland Security. The restrictions apply to those who travel on foot, vehicles, ferries, rail or to coastal ports of entry, as well as immigrants and non-immigrants traveling for the purposes that U.S. authorities do not consider essential.
