TXDOT officials are reporting a recent uptick in stolen street signs in Gillespie County, and the most popular sign to be stolen is anything with Luckenbach on it. Authorities believe signs directing traffic to historic Luckenbach Town Loop are stolen so that they can be hung as decoration in homes.

According to a TXDOT spokesperson, it costs an average of $500 to replace each sign, which ends up affecting taxpayers. Additionally, TXDOT reminds people that road signs are necessary to assist drivers. Officials point out that the removal of a stop sign would pose a great threat for drivers. TXDOT says that there are no current reports of any stolen stop signs in the area.

Officials are asking for people who stole a sign to return it to TXDOT or their local police and fire station.
