TxDOT winter weather tips

Drivers are being asked to avoid non-essential travel on Thursday due to icy conditions making road conditions dangerous. If you must drive, information on road conditions throughout the state can be found at DriveTexas.org, or by calling (800) 452-9292.

TxDOT has offered the following tips for those must travel during inclement weather: slow down; maintain at least three times the normal following distance on snow or ice; watch carefully for snow/ice removal equipment; use extra caution on bridges, overpasses, ramps and shaded areas as they tend to freeze first; if your vehicle starts to slide, ease off the gas pedal or brakes before steering into the direction of the skid. Once you have regained traction, straighten your vehicle.

Other winter weather driving tips are available at the TxDOT Safety Guide for Winter Travel.
