A 6-year-old child was found unresponsive in the bathroom of ExcellED Montessori School in Boerne on Friday, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.  Employees called for emergency services, which began life-saving measures, and rushed her to the hospital in critical condition.  She was later pronounced dead at University Hospital.

Investigators do not believe that the child’s death was a result of any actions of the school or its staff, believing her death to be related to a possibly chronic medical condition.

This recent tragedy comes after a teacher and a small child were killed when a nearby driver suffered a medical episode, with that vehicle colliding into the two in December of last year.

ExcelleED Montessori Plus released a statement on the tragedy, extending its condolences to the family:

“We are heartbroken by the passing of a child who was attending our summer program this week,” said ExcellED Montessori Plus.  “This child experienced a medical emergency in the classroom, and our trained staff responded immediately, administering CPR and emergency care until first responders arrived.  Despite all efforts, the child sadly did not survive.”

“Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will not be sharing additional details.  We are aware that the child had a pre-existing medical condition, and we are cooperating fully with the appropriate authorities. Our entire ExcellED Montessori Plus community is grieving this loss.  We extend our deepest condolences to the family during this incredibly difficult time.  We have made grief counseling available for our staff and students, and we are keeping the family in our thoughts and prayers.”
