Most Kerr County governmental offices, including those located in the Kerr County Courthouse, 700 Main Street in Kerrville, and those located in the West Kerr County Courthouse Annex, 510 College Street in Ingram, will be closed Monday, February 19, in observance of President’s Day.  All departments are expected to resume normal operations on Tuesday, February 20.  The break will not affect emergency services, including fire, EMS or law enforcement.

Since this observed holiday falls on the third Monday of the month, the Kerr County Commissioners’ Court, which meets regularly on the second and fourth Mondays each month, will be unaffected.  To see individual office hours, refer to individual department pages on the county’s website at www.kerrcountytx.gov.

The City of Kerrville Municipal Offices and the Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library will be closed on Monday, February 19 and will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, February 20.  Additionally, the city secretary’s office will be closed on Monday in observance of the holiday.  Those needing assistance can email City Secretary Shelley McElhannon at shelley.mcelhannon@kerrvilletx.gov.  The Parks and Recreation Department office located at Kerrville-Schreiner Park will be open on President’s Day.

President’s Day is a federal and state holiday intended to celebrate the lives of all United States presidents, although it was officially designated in 1879 a federal holiday to celebrate first president and founding father George Washington.  Washington was born on February 22, 1732.  The holiday has also become synonymous with celebrating 16th president Abraham Lincoln, who was born on February 12, 1809.
