The Kerrville Parks and Recreation Department has announced that Louise Hays Park, located at 202 Thompson Drive, has been selected to receive the Lone Star Legacy Park designation from the Texas Recreation and Park Society. A Lone Star Legacy Park is classified as a park that holds special prominence in the local community and the state of Texas. Nominees for this designation must also be at least 50 years old, feature distinctive design and/or construction, be linked to historical events or sites, possess local or regional significance, and showcase unique natural features.
“Each year, only a few parks in Texas receive this prestigious designation,” said Rosa Ledesma, Assistant director of Parks and Recreation. “We are honored that Louise Hays Park has been selected as one of the eight parks of 2025, especially as we celebrate its 75th anniversary. Being built in just one day in the 1950’s, this park is more than just a recreational space – it symbolizes what can be accomplished when a community comes together.”
The Kerrville Parks and Recreation Department invites the community to reflect on Louise Hays Park’s unique origins and enduring legacy. The public is encouraged to visit the park and enjoy walking along the Kerrville River Trail, enjoy a picnic by the river, or participate in one of the many annual events .
For additional information, contact the Parks and Recreation Department at (830) 257-7300, or visit the city’s website at www.kerrvilletx.gov.
