Kerr County has new on-site OSSF Order in place

Kerr County has a new On-Site Sewage Facilities (OSSF) Order in place, effective August 7, 2026.  The biggest change is a permit is now required for all new septic systems on tracts of ANY size.

This new change is NOT retroactive.  Existing systems are fully grandfathered if they were installed before Sept. 1, 1989, and continue to meet state standards.  New construction and/or upgrades to an existing OSSF will require a permit, regardless of tract size.  Permitting fees apply only to OSSFs that are being altered, repaired, upgraded or newly installed.

To view or download the Kerr County OSSF Order visit https://legacy.co.kerr.tx.us/envhealth/docs/2026-08-17–ApprovedKerrCountyOSSFOrder.pdf.

For additional questions contact the Kerr County Environmental Health Office at 830-896-9020, or visit envhealth@env.kerrcountytx.gov.
