Kendall County votes to end Flock Safety contract

The Kendall County Commissioners Court voted unanimously Tuesday not to renew its contract with Flock Safety, following months of pushback from residents concerned about the use of automated license plate reader cameras in the community.  More than 1,000 people signed a petition opposing the technology, according to residents who organized the effort.

Currently, the county has more than 40 Flock cameras installed along major roadways and neighborhood entrances, according to county officials.  During the meeting, the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office presented to commissioners how deputies use the cameras.

Ultimately, commissioners voted 5-0 not to renew the county’s contract with Flock Safety.  The county’s current contract is set to expire September 30.
