Major step forward in improving safety along Webster’s Curve

A major step is underway to improve safety along State Highway 46 West, where Kendall County is putting $100,000 toward upgrades at one of the corridor’s most dangerous curves.  The funding, approved by commissioners last week, will go toward planned improvements at Webster’s Curve, a site where residents and county leaders have long pushed for additional safety measures.

The total Webster’s Curve package is estimated to cost more than $600,000, but residents say the county’s $100,000 contribution is a significant step in the right direction.  The roadway has become a growing concern for residents, who have repeatedly called for safety improvements along the corridor.

According to TxDOT, there were 244 reported crashes along a 12-mile stretch of Highway 46 between 2021 and 2025, including six fatal crashes.

TxDOT currently plans to begin improvements at Webster’s Curve in September 2027, but local leaders are working to move that timeline up.  The project has gained momentum because of the amount of public input surrounding Highway 46 safety, according to officials.
