Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and House Speaker Dustin Burrows have assembled a list of state Senators and Representatives who will serve on the legislature’s Select Committees on Disaster Preparedness and Flooding. Last week, Patrick and Burrows announced the creation of the joint select committee, which will have nine members from each chamber.
Both chambers will meet to discuss the items on Gov. Greg Abbott’s special session call, including flood warning systems, flood emergency communications, relief funding for Hill Country floods and natural disaster preparation and recovery.
Burrows released his list of committee members on Tuesday afternoon. His list includes six Republicans and three Democrats. In the House, the chairman is Republican and the vice chair is Democrat. Burrows said the House’s select committee, chaired by State Rep. Ken King, will have jurisdiction over state policy for natural disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
