Eychner and Hughes officially file for upcoming City of Kerrville elections

It was announced Monday that Judy Eychner has officially filed as a candidate for the Office of Mayor on the Kerrville City Council. Eychner’s application has been verified for eligibility and found to be sufficient, according to City Secretary Shelley McElhannon. Bill Blackburn is the current incumbent for Mayor.

Additionally, McElhannon announced that Brenda Hughes has officially filed as a candidate for the Office of Councilmember Place Four on the Kerrville City Council. Hughes is the current incumbent for Councilmember Place Four.

In accordance with the City Charter, any person who lawfully qualifies and is a registered voter of the City of Kerrville may file an application for a place on the ballot. Councilmembers are elected at large and serve two year terms; qualifications as stated in the Texas Election Code and the Kerrville City Charter are listed on the City’s website: www.kerrvilletx.gov.

With the highly-contagious Omicron virus still having an adverse health impact on Kerrville, standard safety protocols will continue to be observed by city council, city staff and citizens/visitors attending the city council meetings. While masks are voluntary and highly encouraged, a six-foot distance seating will be observed and visitor seating will be designated.

Visitor overflow will be in the city hall lobby where the meeting can be viewed on two wall-mounted TV screens, or outside where visitors will need to use their personal device to view the live broadcast. Citizens wishing to speak at city council meetings can submit a completed “speaker request form” to the city secretary and speakers will be limited to four minutes.

As an additional option, citizens can participate in the meeting via the Zoom program by calling 1-877-858-5247 or 1-888-788-0099. The Zoom operator will be accepting calls beginning at 5:30 p.m. – 5:45 p.m..
