The Fredericksburg Music Festival and School wraps up two weeks of performances on June 21 with a mass cello choir concert featuring Giovanni Sollima’s ‘Note Sconte’ and concluding with the Ode to Joy from Beethoven’s Symphony No 9. The concert begins at 5 p.m. and takes place in the Ballroom of the Admiral Nimitz Hotel in downtown Fredericksburg, Texas. The program also includes selections from Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings, and the Wizard of Oz theme Over The Rainbow.
Presented by Texas cellos, the Fredericksburg Music Festival and School is a new event that Creative Director Joseph Kuipers describes as “an ambitious slate of programming,” designed to blend contemporary innovation with classical tradition.
“I want to say this is not the end, but the beginning,” Kuipers said of the final concert. “Because what we’re doing here is building a festival, a cultural center, and a destination.”
The two-week event included a dozen performances by 25 “world class” musicians held at five historic venues, along with masterclasses for 15 top international cello students.
