A limited court order has been signed by Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly that lifts the burn ban starting no sooner than one hour after sunrise on Monday, July 28 for the areas of the county unaffected by the July 4 flood waters. The ban remains IN EFFECT in the area along the Guadalupe River that was affected by the flood disaster.
‘Affected’ areas are areas considered affected by the July 4 flood and are those properties between the high water marks of both banks of the Guadalupe River to specifically include the River, the riverbed, the banks, islands, etc. and the Guadalupe River floodway.
While local officials encourage residents in the affected areas to use the free debris collection services being provided, residents will eventually have the option of burning vegetative debris (tree wood, brush, leaves, etc) in a restricted manner.
Affected areas have been divided by local authorities into east and west zones, with the dividing line between the two halves being Loop 534. Residents on those affected properties will only be permitted to conduct open-air, open-flame burns of storm/flood vegetative debris once the following steps are met:
~Local authorities have assessed and cleared an area.
~Local authorities have released a designated zone.
~Property owners within that released zone’s boundaries have called their intentions in to the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office and their local volunteer fire department.
~Property owners making the calls have received official permission to burn.
After each zone is cleared and released, it will be announced on the county’s social media pages. The zone map for upcoming burning has been released.
