Kerr County to begin evaluations of flood-damages homes and businesses

Starting Thursday, Kerr County is beginning to evaluate buildings and homes damaged by the July 4 floods.  This step is part of the necessary process when the president declares a flooding disaster.  The county says the assessments are necessary to make sure homeowner’s build back safer and stronger.

The assessments will be done by civil engineering firm streamline engineering.  They will assess buildings, residential and commercial, for potential structural damage that reached the 100-year floodplain.  These evaluations are free over the next 10 days.  Evaluations can be conducted between 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., including weekends.

It is required by the national flood insure program and the Kerr County damage prevention court order.  For residential buildings, the inspection will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes.  Inspections for commercial buildings usually last anywhere from 20 to 90 minutes.

The data is going to be given to the county’s engineering department who will mail the initial determination to the owners.
