On Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Kerrville Police Department will be hosting DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day at the Public Safety Facility, 365 Clearwater Paseo. The Kerrville Police Dept., with volunteers from the Kerrville Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association, will collect tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs for safe disposal.
In 2025, KPD collected 430 pounds of unneeded medications – those that are old, unwanted, or expired – to prevent drug misuse and abuse. Additionally, the Raphael Free Clinic collected over twenty pounds of viable medications, which was provided to low-income patients at no cost, and saved over 200 pounds of recyclable packaging from the landfill. Staff from the Clinic will be on hand again Saturday to receive any viable medications for the patients. Additionally, Leah Westra from Hill Country Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse will be handing out Deterra Bags, which allow people to destroy medications safely at home so they don’t end up in the landfill or water supply.
Take Back Day offers free and anonymous disposal of unneeded medications. Syringes, sharps, and illicit drugs will not be accepted. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container, and the cap must be tightly sealed to prevent leakage.
