The City of Fredericksburg is kicking off its July 4th weekend beginning with the VFW Auxiliary’s Kiddie Parade set for 8:30 a.m. this Friday, July 4, at Marktplatz. The Fredericksburg Community Fourth of July Parade begins at 10 a.m. Friday along Main Street.
The City of Fredericksburg’s annual fireworks show starts about 9:30 p.m. Friday night. The display launches from the golf course at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park.
The Pioneer Museum’s First Weekend program “First on the Frontier: Fort Martin Scott Through Time,” presented by Shannon Smith, the site manager of the fort, will cover the history of Fort Martin Scott and its evolution over time. The program will be at the Gillespie County Historical Society Sanctuary from 3:30-5 p.m. on Friday, July 4. On Saturday, July 5, activities at the museum start at 10 a.m. Scheduled events include demonstrations from spinners, blacksmiths, talks with interpreters from Frontier History Company and hands-on, family-friendly events such as a scavenger hunt. Two Texas Longhorn steers, Freddy and Thor, and butter churning demonstrations, will also be available for viewing from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Friends of Pioneer Memorial Library is having a used book sale from 9 a.m.-noon this Saturday, July 5.
The National Museum of the Pacific War will host a reenactment of the heroic crews of a PT boat, Navy pilots preparing for takeoff and other stories of World War II at the Pacific Combat Zone on Saturday, July 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Finally, Fredericksburg Dance Hall Nights returns to Marktplatz from 7-11 p.m. on Saturday, July 5.
