The Texas Department of Public Safety said Tuesday Texas Rangers are now helping investigate complaints of neglect by Camp Mystic during the July 4, 2025 floods. DPS said on Tuesday the Texas Rangers are “now assisting the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) in an investigation regarding complaints of neglect by Camp Mystic in Kerr Co. during the July 4, 2025, floods.”
Twenty-seven Camp Mystic campers and counselors died during the floods. Multiple families have filed several lawsuits against the camp since the tragedy, alleging “gross negligence,” arguing the 27 young campers and counselors who perished could have been saved.
In a statement, DSHS said it’s received “hundreds of complaints regarding Camp Mystic’s operations in the summer of 2025” since early February. DPS deferred any additional information to DSHS.
“DSHS is investigating alleged violations of the Texas laws governing youth camps and has asked the Department of Public Safety to assist with investigating allegations concerning the camp’s operations. DSHS will consider any relevant information shared with the agency as part of its ongoing investigation.”
