The Boerne police officer who fatally shot a man earlier this year will not face charges after a grand jury chose not to move the case forward. Boerne PD Officer Corp. Cheyenne Weber shot 41-year-old Brandon Cruz in February after Cruz began ramming the car he was driving into a parked police vehicle.
According to police reports, Cruz had threatened to kill himself in front of family members earlier in the day at a home in Fredericksburg, before fleeing the residence. Concerned relatives contacted authorities detailing the events that had transpired, and a police chase ensued.
Cruz managed to evade police before a witness reported seeing his vehicle sitting in front of an apartment complex in the City of Boerne. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they ordered Cruz to exit his car.
At this time, reports state that Cruz began revving up his engine before purposely crashing his vehicle into the squad car. Weber discharged his weapon while standing outside his patrol car, and Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the shooting, Weber had been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.
