The Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library is inviting families, friends, and readers of all ages to celebrate the start of Summer Reading 2025 to its Kick-Off Party on Saturday, May 31, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  This free, family-friendly event is packed with excitement, energy, and a little something for everyone.  Friends of the Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library are also showing their support by having the bookstore open during this event.

Crafts and other hands-on activities with help from community partners, including:  H-E-B Grocery, H-E-B Foundation, Texas Children in Nature Network, Color of Clay, Upper Guadalupe River Authority (UGRA), Riverside Nature Center, Kerrville Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Texas Children in Nature Network.

“This event is a celebration of community, curiosity, and the joy of reading,” Library Director Diane Miller said.  “We’re so proud to partner with local organizations that help make learning and discovery fun for every age group.”

Summer Reading registration begins at the Kick-Off Party.  For those who can’t make it to this party, they can stop by the library anytime after May 31 to sign up.  Participation is open to all, and you don’t need a library card to join.  Library cards are free to Kerr County residents.

The Summer Reading Program supports all kinds of readers, from devotees of manga and fantasy fans to budding scientists and curious explorers.  Summer Reading helps all readers grow, and especially supports younger readers in maintaining the important skills they developed during the school year.  Summer Reading helps prevent the “Summer Slide” which can result from the break from school and learning loss for students.

Summer Reading runs from May 31-July 31.  Visit the library to pick up a full calendar of events and to register for programs.

For more information, contact the library’s reference desk at (830) 258-1274, or visit the city’s website at www.kerrvilletx.gov.
