~Open enrollment for health insurance is just days away.  The Better Business Bureau Scam Tracker says scammers are offering fake plans, asking for too much personal info, and even threatening consumers with a loss of benefits, all to make big bucks off your needs to keep your cash.  The BBB Heart of Texas recommends the following to protect your personal info and avoid health insurance scams:

Be cautious with unsolicited callers.

Keep personal information private.

Watch for threats claiming a loss of benefits if you don’t make a payment.

Only use official websites such as Medicare.gov and Healthcaregov.

If you think you have been a victim of a suspected scam make sure to report it to the BBB Scam Tracker to help others avoid potential fraud.

~Kerr County residents are being warned about a scam email falsely claiming to be an official Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) notice regarding an unpaid traffic citation.  Kerr County Tax Assessor-Collector Bob Reeves is urging residents to be vigilant and NOT fall victim to this latest version of an old scam.  The fraudulent email often has the subject line “Review your violation” and claims it is a “DMV Official Notice.”  It says the recipient has an outstanding traffic citation and demands immediate payment, threatening consequences within 72 hours if not paid.

The Texas DMV does NOT issue traffic citations.  The Kerr County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office does not issue traffic citations or collect traffic fines.  The fraudulent email does not originate from an official Kerr County email address.  If you receive this fraudulent email: do not click on any links; do not provide personal or financial information; do not make a payment.
