Gillespie County Judge Daniel Jones has lifted the burn ban for Gillespie County as of February 11. Anyone burning is still encouraged to exercise caution.
General requirements for Prescribed-Controlled Burn include:
~ Create directions to the burn location and plan emergency access to the burn site.
~ Before burning, notify the Fredericksburg Fire Dept. at (830) 990-8793 of your plans to burn.
~ Burn only outside the corporate limits of a city or town.
~ Burn only when the wind or other weather conditions are such that smoke will not present a hazard, nuisance to others or affect road/highway visibility.
~ Begin burning no earlier than 1 hour after sunrise, end burning same day, and no burning later than 1 hour before sunset.
~ Weather conditions must be such that smoke will dissipate (winds of at least 6 mph – and no faster than 23 mph).
~ The burn site must be physically supervised at all times during active burning.
~ Burn supervisor must have immediate access to a telephone at all times should the burn get out of control and you require immediate Fire Department response.
