Two winners of the nearly $1.8 billion Powerball prize were picked on Saturday, with one of the tickets sold in Fredericksburg.  Big's convenience store, located off Highway 290 and Jenschke Lane, was where a winning ticket was sold.  It marks one of the largest lottery prizes sold in Texas history.  The other winning ticket was purchased in Missouri. The City of Fredericksburg Street Dept. will close West Live Oak Street from Kerr Road to Post Oak Road on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 4-5 between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. to improve the road surface. The Fredericksburg City Council and Gillespie County Commissioners Court set public hearings for the proposed increases in tax rates. The City will hold its hearing at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9 at the new City Hall East Campus. The county will have its hearing at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8 at the county courthouse, 101 W. Main St., in Fredericksburg.

Due to the extensive flood destruction from the July 4 floods, FEMA has granted a request from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to extend the deadline to request flood assistance.  People affected by the Hill Country floods now have until Sept. 28 to apply.
