Herff Elementary School was placed on lockdown and later evacuated Friday afternoon at approximately 4 p.m. after reports of gunshots near the campus, according to the Kendall County Sheriff's Office. The City of Kerrville wants to update the public on repairs being done to the Sh 16 Bridge repairs following the July 2026 flooding, which caused significant damage to TxDOT infrastructure along the Guadalupe River.  During the flood event, a large barge was carried downstream and struck the SH 16 bridge.  The impact damaged one of the bridge's exterior beams.
