The Kerrville Chamber of Commerce is actively seeking donations to resume grants for flood-hit businesses.  The chamber has collected roughly $1.4 million in donations, with some of that money coming from the Community Foundation. Kerr County leaders debated proposed tax rates during Wednesday's budget workshop. Michael Hornes, Assistant City Manager of Kerrville, confirmed during Tuesday's Kerrville City Council meeting that one of the city's priorities has been cleanup at the water treatment plant. Families who were impacted by the July 4 floods were presented $25,000 checks from Gov. Texas shoppers can avoid the state's 6.25% sales tax on qualifying back-to-school items during the annual tax-free weekend running Friday, August 8 through midnight Sunday, Aug. 10.  School supplies such as binders, notebooks, pencils, glue, rulers and calculators are included in the tax exemption without price restrictions.  Accessories including watches, purses, umbrellas, luggage and computer bags do not qualify for tax-free status.  Textbooks, software and computers also remain taxable.
