Texas 4-H has announced they are gathering backpacks for students attending the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District this fall.  The backpacks received will be distributed to students enrolled in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Anyone wishing to donate can bring backpacks to the Gillespie County AgriLife Extension Office, 38 Business Court. Members of Texas 4-H say their goal is to collect 2,000 backpacks before the start of the new academic school year.

Kerr County landowners are eligible to apply for a grant that will help them recover costs associated with protecting their properties from wildfires.  The Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) is offering the 2022 Mechanical Fuel Reduction Grant in order to reimburse selected landowners for the money they've spent to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires. On Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its weekly Community levels and listed five Central Texas counties as "high" risk for COVID-19.  Those in the high category include Mason, Gillespie, Blanco, Hays and Caldwell counties.
