The City of Kerrville's Park and Recreation Department will be playing host to an "End of Summer Shindig," Saturday, August 6 from 7:30-9:30 p.m.at Kerrville-Schreiner Park, 2385 Bandera Highway. The City of Boerne wants to warn citizens of another scammer trend occurring in the community.  According to a Facebook post, Boerne officials report receiving numerous claims of residents receiving calls from an individual claiming to be a volunteer for the City, helping out with updating "records." The annual sales tax holiday for Texas is coming up.  Parents will have the chance to save on clothes and school supplies.

During the holiday, which occurs August 5-7 this year, qualified items include clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks under $100 will be exempt from sales tax, according to the office of Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar.  The office estimates shoppers will save $112 million altogether in state and local sales taxes during the first weekend in August. Backpack Drive for Uvalde ISD students

Texas 4-H has announced they are gathering backpacks for students attending the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District this fall.  The backpacks received will be distributed to students enrolled in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Anyone wishing to donate can bring backpacks to the Gillespie County AgriLife Extension Office, 38 Business Court. Members of Texas 4-H say their goal is to collect 2,000 backpacks before the start of the new academic school year.

Kerr County landowners can apply for grant money for recovering costs associated with wildfire protection

Kerr County landowners are eligible to apply for a grant that will help them recover costs associated with protecting their properties from wildfires.  The Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) is offering the 2022 Mechanical Fuel Reduction Grant in order to reimburse selected landowners for the money they've spent to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires. CDC lists Gillespie County as “high” risk for COVID-19

On Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its weekly Community levels and listed five Central Texas counties as "high" risk for COVID-19.  Those in the high category include Mason, Gillespie, Blanco, Hays and Caldwell counties. Some Gillespie County businesses affected by Thursday’s thunderstorms

Gillespie County officials reported that due to Thursday evening thunderstorms, some area businesses suffered damage due to the 60-mph winds, recorded by  National Weather Service Meteorologist Aaron Treadway. Fredericksburg Police Chief Brian Vorauer said that various buildings felt the pressure from the storm between the hours of 5-9 p.m. Thursday night.
